Recupero reti fantasma a Vulcano

In Vulcano, in the heart of the Aeolian Islands, the Sicily Environment Fund team, together with Saracen Diving Center and Abyss Cleanup, has successfully recovered nearly 300 kg of abandoned fishing gear and wires,removing dangerous debris from the marine ecosystem. Ghost nets, lost or abandoned fishing nets, are made of plastic and are a major threat to our seas. They are often lost due to rough weather conditions or poor management practices, continuing to trap and harm marine life long after being discarded. Every net and wire recovered means a safer habitat for marine species and healthier coastal ecosystems. Our team is not only focused on recovery efforts, but also on identifying long-term solutions to improve fishing gear management and prevent future pollution.
