Ecological Transition
BlueFishers
awarded
Project duration: November 2025 – July 2026
The BlueFishers project led by Marevivo is expanding! From Tuscany, with the support of the Tuscany Environment Foundation, it is now arriving at the port of Sciacca in Sicily thanks to SEF in partnership with Verdura Resort Sicily-Rocco Forte Hotel.
With BlueFishers, we promote a circular and responsible fishing supply chain: goodbye to single-use polystyrene, and welcome to reusable and recyclable crates. Polystyrene is highly polluting: it breaks down into microplastics, easily disperses into the sea, releases harmful substances, and is difficult to recycle.
This is an important new step toward involving more and more local communities and small artisanal fishing cooperatives in the transition to sustainable and sea-friendly fishing practices, adopting a preventive approach based on reducing waste at the source.
*JANUARY 2026 UPDATE*
We told you it was coming. Now it’s time for action. BlueFishers officially starts in Sicily.
In Sciacca, the distribution of 1,000 reusable and recyclable fish boxes to small-scale artisanal fishers is underway, thanks to the support of Sicily Environment Fund, Verdura Resort Sicily-Rocco Forte Hotel and the collaboration of the fishermen’s cooperative Società Cooperativa di Mutua Assistenza fra i Pescatori. The ceremony took place in the council chamber of the Municipality of Sciacca, in the presence of the Mayor, as a sign of the direct involvement of the local authorities. Goodbye single-use containers, yes to more sustainable practices. Less pollution at sea, with fishers and local communities at the heart of the change. A concrete action that benefits the sea, the environment and all those who depend on it every day.
Because the ecological transition also begins here: with the right choices, made together.
