Rewilding guide training

Duration period: March 2023 – December 2023

The training for local nature guides, with Rewilding at its core, will be the first of its kind in Sicily! Rewilding is a progressive conservation approach that aims to restore degraded ecosystems by allowing native species to  regenerate and thrive boosting natural processes. The course will include a webinar and an infield training in the South of Sicily and will be delivered by a team of both local and international experts around Astrid Natura in collaboration with Collettivo Rewild Sicily, using the international standard for wildlife tracking:  CyberTracker. The aim is to set the basis to improve nature-based economy in the ecotourism sector, while preserving terrestrial biodiversity and traditional rural practices, and providing additional data for evidence-based land management, fire prevention and future Rewilding measures.

Congratulation to Astrid Natura, Collettivo Rewild Sicily, the trainers Toni Romani and George Messener and to all participants to the Rewilding Guide Training, for completing this initiative successfully! Through this project, we are leveraging a network of nature guides from different corners of Sicily to become guardians of our environment. New tools for environmental interpretation and ecological monitoring will be of great help to provide crucial data to protect and restore natural habitats.

****DECEMBER 2023 UPDATE****

The video by Riccio Blu is finally online and closes the first Rewilding Training with Astrid Natura and Collettivo Rewild Sicily

This project has strengthened a network of nature guides from different parts of Sicily, valuing their knowledge as territorial custodians, through the use of innovative tools for environmental interpretation, participatory and citizen science approaches.

Nature guides, along with shepherds, hunters and forest officers involved in the Impetus4cs project, will be able to share important information on biodiversity and signs of fires.
