Sustainable Food Systems

Historical events, customs and natural heritage have resulted in many traditional rural landscapes in Sicily, thus the conservation of traditional rural landscapes is particularly important. The SEF funds initiatives including – but not restricted to – the following pressing issues:

– Addressing landscape as a productive system advocating for the adoption of agroecology as an integrated holistic approach.

– Providing technical and financial support to small farmers and winegrowers to protect traditional rural landscapes threatened by land abandonment and modern agriculture.

The SEF particularly welcomes projects engaging with communities and adopting approaches that improve environmental sustainability and promote participation in climate-smart agriculture.
